AFCON 2025: Ivorian Star Backs Nigeria, Egypt, And Senegal For Title
Sampson Adedeji
Ivory Coast winger Jean Michael Seri has identified his home country, along with Nigeria, Egypt, and Senegal, as strong contenders for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Elephants defied expectations to win the 2023 AFCON, overcoming a shaky group-stage performance before defeating Nigeria 2-1 in the final to claim their third title. Seri believes they have what it takes to repeat their success but acknowledges stiff competition from other top teams.
“There’s still Senegal, and also Egypt, who will be in great shape, especially with Mohamed Salah. If he maintains his current form, he’s doing exceptional things with Liverpool,” Seri said.
“They also have a lot of young talents coming through. Nigeria will be a strong contender as well. As I’ve said, anything is possible.
“AFCON is a tournament won with desire and determination. If you approach it with complacency, you’ll hit a wall. It’s crucial to give your all and believe,” he added.
