Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has stated that he is open to the idea of deploying a two-striker system with Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick in the future, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The pair teamed up to help Leverkusen secure a 3-2 victory over FC Cologne in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinal on Wednesday, marking the first time they played together this season.

Schick scored Leverkusen’s second goal, while Boniface added the third.

When asked after the match if the two forwards could feature together more regularly, Alonso said, “Yes, that’s an option. We assess what’s needed for each game, and if we believe they can combine well and meet the team’s needs, it’s definitely an option.”

Bayer Leverkusen will face Wolfsburg away in a league match on Sunday.
