Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has reaffirmed his belief in Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, despite the club failing to sign another forward during the January transfer window, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Awoniyi, who has struggled to find his best form this season, was reportedly linked with a move away from the City Ground last month.

However, Forest successfully retained him, along with other key players, without adding to their attacking options.

“We are in a good place as a squad,” Nuno said ahead of Tuesday night’s FA Cup match against Exeter City.

“As long as we stay healthy and continue working well, I believe we can compete until the end of the season.

“It was a quiet window for all clubs. Operating in January is always challenging, and we were fully aware of that.

“Our goal was to keep the core of the squad intact. All the players are here and available. We didn’t achieve everything we set out to, but we continue moving forward.”
