Rear Admiral Hassan Emerges Grace Ihonvbere Golf Open Champion

The week-long golf invitational open organised to celebrate the 60th birthday anniversary of Mrs Grace Ihonvbere, the past Lady Captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja has ended in a grand style.

Real Admiral Mustapha Bala Hassan outplayed other 300 competitors to win the anniversary trophy. The Naval Officer emerged overall winner after returning a nett score of 67 on count back over 18 holes.

Receiving the award, Real Admiral Hassan attributed his victory, which earned him a brand new golf cart, to his consistency and lucky charm. He also praised the tournament, describing it as the "best ever" he's participated in since taking up golf.

Other winners of the night include Paul Uzezi who won the Best Gross men as Joel Molel occupied runner-up position while Grace Agbo emerged the Best Gross Ladies and Farida Wada was the runner-up. O. Olukoya was adjudged the best in Guest men while LGAN President, Evelyn Oyome was the best in Guest Ladies category. Past Captain Chika Chiejina won the Veteran men while past Lady captain, Lami Ahmed occupied the Veteran Ladies top position. Another past Captain, Sola Awoyungbo emerged Super Veteran men winner as F. Anyanwu was the best in Super Veteran Ladies category. 

Guest of honour, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, praised Lady Grace Ihonvbere as a shining example of discipline, humility, and dedication to serving humanity as she marked a significant milestone.

While appreciating the support of everyone present during the one week golfing championship from Caddies, Pros and over 300 Amateurs, Grace Ihonvbere said her decision to celebrate her 60th birthday anniversary in the Club is borne out of her desire to appreciate the support she has received over the years from friends, colleagues and the club.

The dinner and awards event was attended by Grace Ihonvbere's husband, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Leader of the House of Representatives in the National Assembly, Captain of the club, Ibrahim Babayo, members of the Club's Board of Trustees, Executive members of the club, families and friends of the celebrant.
