Senegal Begins Renovation Of Stadiums, Prepares To Host AFCON 2025

After the inauguration of the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio in February 2022, The Senegalese government has budgeted $46 million for the renovation of the 60,000 capacity Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium in Dakar and Demba Diop Stadium in Greater Dakar, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Work on the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium will cost $33 million as Senegal prepares to Host the Africa Cup of Nations in future.

Shut down in 2017 after 8 people died due to collapsing of some parts of the stadium, The Dempa Diop Stadium will also be renovated through FIFA Funds and $12 million from the Senegal government.

The Senegal government is preparing to take the 2025 hosting rights from Guinea which are yet to begin the construction of infrastructure to host the African Continent.

Senegal earlier made a request to Co-Host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Guinea but Guinea rejected the offer and the Senegalese are one of the favourites to host the 2025 AFCON if taken away from Guinea.

A Chinese company has won the contract of renovating the Stadiums as work is expected to begin as soon as possible.
