South Africa U17 Women's coach, Ntombifuthi Khumalo, has outlined her team's strategy to contain Nigeria's Flamingos in their upcoming clash, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Both sides will face off in the first leg of the second qualifying round for the U17 Women's World Cup on Saturday at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
“We are determined to qualify for the World Cup. Our approach is to break the game into 15-minute intervals, focusing on defensive organization to prevent conceding goals,” Khumalo told safa.net.
“We will play with a high press and attack because we need to create scoring opportunities to win. However, our priority is to strengthen our defence. Most of our tactical training has focused on defensive structure and pressing high up the pitch.
“We analyzed their performance in the January tournament and saw how strong they are offensively. We've been preparing for that, and so far, I’m pleased with the team's progress.”
