D'Tigers crash out of FIBA World Cup title race
By Sampson Adedeji
Following the victory of Russia over South Korea, Nigeria's D'Tigers have been eliminated from the medal zone of the ongoing FIBA men's World Cup in China.
BSN Sports reports that the Nigeria side had earlier lost to Argentina 94-81 in its second group match, having lost the first match to Russia on the opening day.
Russia thrashed South Korea 87-73 in their second group match and the victory ensured that Nigeria is out of contention for the World Cup trophy.
The only lifeline for the D'Tigers is that they still have opportunity to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games but must beat South Korea in their last match.
Tunisia recorded the first Africa victory at the world cup on Monday as they defeated Iran 79-67 in a keenly contested game.
Their victory further pile pressure on the D'Tigers as it make it extremely compulsory for Nigeria to beat Korea to have a chance of representing Africa at the Olympics.
